Hakainde Hichilema and Co-Accused Transported from Lusaka Magistrate's Courts to Chimbokaila Prison
UPND President, Hakainde Hichilema, raises both hands in defiance as he and five co-accused Muleya Hachiinda, Pretorius Haloba, Wallace Chakawa, Lastone Mulilanduba and Hamusonde Hamaleka are transported back to Chimbokaila Maximum Security Prison following a court appearance at the Lusaka Magistrate's Courts. All six were charged with treason following an incident in Mongu on 9 April 2017 in which their convoy allegedly obstructed a presidential motorcade. The charges were widely condemned by opposition parties, civil society and the international community as politically motivated. Hichilema would remain in detention for 127 days before the state entered a nolle prosequi on 16 August 2017.
