President Hichilema and Vice President Nalumango Arrive at the 2026 Nomination Centre
President Hakainde Hichilema, accompanied by Vice President Mutale Nalumango, arrives at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka on 22 May 2026 to submit his nomination papers for the August 13 general election. Surrounded by his security detail and welcomed by thousands of UPND supporters clad in red, the President cuts a calm and assured figure as he formally registers his candidacy for a second term. The Electoral Commission of Zambia subsequently validated both his nomination and that of Vice President Nalumango as the UPND ticket. The occasion carried particular historical resonance; it was at the same venue on 19 May 2021 that Hichilema filed his nomination as opposition leader and first unveiled Nalumango as his running mate.
