60th Independence Day Address to the Nation
📍 Lusaka, Zambia
President Hichilema delivered the Independence Day address to the nation on 24 October 2024, marking Zambia's 60th anniversary of independence from British colonial rule — a milestone Diamond Jubilee. The commemoration was held under the theme "60 Years Strong: Honoring Our Heritage, Embracing Our Future."
In his address broadcast on state television, President Hichilema expressed optimism for the country's future, emphasising that Zambia would continue to shine and remain united in peace and purpose for the next 60 years and beyond through collective efforts.
"With patriotism and faith, we must tackle modern challenges like climate change and corruption, striving to build a just and prosperous nation," he said.
President Hichilema highlighted the importance of Zambia's youth, calling them the country's greatest blessing and emphasising that nurturing their potential is key to securing a prosperous future. He called on the nation to renew its commitment to building a prosperous future worthy of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters who secured independence sixty years earlier.
