President Hichilema delivered his first New Year address to the nation on the eve of 2022, broadcast on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC). The address came just four months after his inauguration as the seventh President of the Republic of Zambia on 24 August 2021.

In his message, President Hichilema reflected on the challenges inherited by his administration, including a severe debt crisis, a weakened economy, and the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He acknowledged the difficult conditions facing ordinary Zambians but expressed confidence that the New Dawn administration would turn the situation around through hard work, prudent governance, and engagement with international partners.

The President called on Zambians to approach the new year with determination and a spirit of unity, stressing that the recovery of the nation depended on the collective effort of all citizens. He reaffirmed his government commitment to free education, economic stabilisation, and fighting corruption, and expressed optimism that 2022 would mark the beginning of a tangible turnaround for Zambia.

He extended New Year greetings to all Zambians at home and abroad, and wished the nation a peaceful, prosperous, and productive 2022.
