IBA and ZNBC Acts Passed to Promote Broadcasting Independence

In 2025, the Hichilema administration passed the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Act No. 26 of 2025 and the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) Act No. 26 of 2025, establishing a new legal framework for broadcasting in Zambia. The legislation was designed to promote independence, fairness and accountability in broadcasting, while safeguarding press freedom and the public interest. The reforms represented a significant step in modernising Zambia's media landscape and fulfilling the administration's commitment to democratic governance and freedom of expression.
